BIG DECLINE
NAZI ARMAMENT. PRODUCTION
HEAVY DRAIN ON MANPOWER
The heavy drain on German manpower due to the war with Russia has resulted, according to authorities on industrial Germany, in a decline in Nazi armament production of about 20 per cent, during the past year*, says the United States newspaper "P.M." It is estimated that of 19,000,000 Germans between the ages of IS and 48, about 8,000,000 are in the army, and 1,500,000 have been casualties, leaving only half of all German males of productive years to man war material factories.
According to a Belgian correspondent in "The Times," production has been held up for several weeks at two factories in the area Vilvorde near Brussels by the destruction of an electrical sub-station. Though this was guarded day and night, saboteurs got over the walls and placed large quantities of explosives at a vulnerable place. One of the factories affected is requisitioned by Krupps for testing aeroplane engines and making precision tools, and the other is a branch of Renault.
