W.W.S.A. Parade. The Women's War Service Auxiliary will hold a military drill parade in the Rivoli hall on Thursday, April 23, at 7.30 p.m.

Rationing? A man who went into a shop yesterday and purchased a box of matches has reason to believe that rationing has started. There were •2 9 matches in the box.

Patriotic Shop. Members of the Tauranga, Pye's Pa and Te Puna branches of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union were in charge of the patriotic shop on Friday, taking just on £2 7. Competitions decided on Thursday and Friday were as follows: —Smoker's stand, Mrs H. J. Rowe; baby set, D. Hammond; chocolates, Mary Burgess; butter cooler, Mrs N. Ward; gentleman's set, Miss Macmillan Ist, Mr F. H. Earl 2nd; torch, Mrs lies, senr., Ist, Mrs Brewster 2nd.; dinner, Mrs M. Gordon; ham, D. S. Scott; pyjamas, Mrs C. V. Taylor.

In the London Blitz. Mr F. W. Doidge M.P., at a meeting of the Te Puna settlers told a story of an old lady in London who flatly refused to leave her home throughout the "blitz" although the buildings all around her had been demolished. Wondering at the old lady's stubbornness the neighbours asked her what' she'did when the bombs dropped. "When night comes," she said. "I sits down and reads the Bible, and then I says my prayers, after that I goes to bed. Then I starts up and says, 'To 'Ell with Hitler," and lies down and goes to sleep."

Sugar Rationing. The registration of consumers with retailers in connection with sugar rationing became effective yesterday, according to a statement by the Food Controller, Mr J. E. Thomas, states a Wellington message. The counterfoil on the "S" page of coupons in the ration book is to be used for the purpose. The actual rationing of sugar will commence from a date to be announced later. Ration books for the person registering and his or her family should be taken to the retailer, who will then fill in his name on the "S" counterfoil, cut it from the book, and also write the name of his shop in the "S" space provided on the inside of the front cover.
