PRODUCER GAS PROGRESS
IMMEDIATE AFTER-WAR CONDITIONS PETROL MAY STILL BE SCARCE Although it is recognised that producer gas is an emergency expedient with which no one would trouble for car propulsion if sufficient petrol were available, it is a fact that the number of cars to be so equipped is steadily increasing. This is in spite of lack of any real official encouragement.
An aspect which has not been specially commented upon is concerned with immediate after-war conditions. It is not to be assumed that within a short time after peace returns petrol supplies will necessarily be unrationed once again or that the price will be even as low as the present figure. Should these conditions remain unfavourable for any appreciable period the user of a producer gas plant will obtain further value from his investment, in a degree which obviously cannot be predicted at this stage. Ttiere is present evidence of further progress being made in the application of gas producers to cars, a number of makers who hitherto have not been conspicuous for special efforts to sell to the ordinary motorist having now announced new or improved plants.
