SECRET BALLOT
WESTFIELD WORKS IN CONNECTION WITH COOL STORES DISPUTE SLAUGHTERING HELD UP Following on a meeting of the men employed at the works of the Westfield Freezing Company, Ltd., at Westfield to-day, the men decided to hold a secret ballot in connection with the cool stores dispute in Auckland. It was stated this afternoon that the men had gone to their dressing room after the meeting, though how long they would be there was not known, as it was understood that they were procuring ballot papers from Auckland. Officials connected with the company stated that the men. prior to going to the dressing room, had already taken an hour and a quarter more than their usual lunch hour. The stoppage of work was a serious matter, as preparations had been made for the killing of stock which was on hand. These work stoppages was seriously embarrassing the company. It is understood that a meeting of the employees of the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company’s works at Southdown took place in the lunch hour and two delegates were appointed to attend the Auckland meeting.
