An amusing incident was witnessed in Wanganui the other evening when a dog was badly beaten in fair fight by a hedgehog. The spinv creature had emerged from the grassgrit roadside near a tram-stop, and was proceeding peacefully along the road when a small fox terrier espied it. The hedgehog, aware of the danger, ran a few yards and then curled up. The puppy, thus baulked of his prey,, made a few unavailing efforts to solve the mystery, and then made a \ icious snap at the unoffending creature. Needless to sav, the dog retired squealing dismally' while the hedgehog, making the most of the brief respite, scuttled to safety.
