OBITUARY

Jilts M. A. li. SHANKS The late Mrs Mary Ann Ramsay Shanks, who passed away on Sunday last at Taurauga, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and was the daughter of Mr John Effingham Scott. She came to New Zealand twenty-eight years ago and settled in Dunedin, where site was married to Mr Francis Shanks in St. Paul's Cathedral. Four years ago Mr and Mrs Shanks came to Taurauga for health reasons. The late Mrs Shanks took a keen interest in the Girl Guide movement and while at Havensbourne was an active member of the Committee. She was also a foundation member and VicePresident of the Ravensbourne branch of the Mother’s Union. Since arriving here the late Mrs Shanks was active in establishing a branch of the Mother’s Union in Taurauga and was neyer sparing in her efforts to get the organization firmly established. She also took a keen interest it the affairs of the Church of England and will be much missed by her fellow workers by whom she was recognised as a sincere member whose heart was in her work. She is mourned by her husbaiid, Mr Francis Shanks, and two sisters in Dunedin, and one brother in London, to whom the sympathy of many friends will be extended. The funeral took place to-day from Holy Trinity Church, were the Rev. O. S. O. Gibson conducted the service. A large number of wreaths were placed on the bier and gave eloquent tribute to the esteem in which the deceased lady was held.
