LARGE FORTUNE
SHARE FOR ACTOR
SON OF WEALTHY SOUTH AVALES SHIPOAA^NER
Under the terms of the will of the late Mr Hilary Marquand, Cardiff shipowner, who died recently, aged 83, one of his sons to inherit a large portion of the £208,225 estate is Clifford Marquand, well-known stage and screen actor.
Mr Marquand, middle-aged, with a wife and family, and who lives at Princes Park-avenue, N.W., will continue his theatrical work.
He hab been on the stage for 30 years and his early days were a real struggle. He told me he had the family love of the sea, and as a lad he spent summer holidays travelling in his father’s boats to Spain, France, and countries far away.
He later decided he would be an actor, and started with Mr Edward Compton, father of Fay Compton and Compton Mackenzie. Many struggles followed, and he often wondered where his next meal was coming from. But Mr Marquand won through, and since those days has played in almost every conceivable type of role from Shakespeare to modern drama, and has also appeared in films.
