NOT CUT YET

ked tape across the bridge

A Sydney business man wanted to send a parcel up the North Shore line a day or two ago, so he went down to Wynyard Station. “I want to send this,” he said to an official.

“Sorry, sir,” said the man, “but we can't send it across the Bridge. “Good Heavens!” said the customer, “is the Bridge as unsafe as that?” “The Bridge is quite safe,’ said the unhappy official, “but the regulations do not permit parcels to go over the Bridge.”

“Well, what can I do?” was the answer. “It’s urgent, and I want to get it to its destination immediately.”

“Well, the best thing to do,” was the reply, “is to go over in the train yourself, and book it at North Shore station.”

"Ha, ha!” laughed the customer, “that’s a good ’un." “It’s the only thing you can do,” said the railway man sympathetically. And somewhat increduously the passenger took his advice. When he got to North Shore station he checked up on his advice and found it was correct.

He booked the parcel a few stations up the line, paid his fare back to town, and arrived back at his office, minus a couple of shillings, and staggered with admiration for our ingenious methods of extracting money from taxpayers.
