.MUtKSTEi) IN MELBOURNE. (Per Press Association) Christchurch, Jan. S. John Black Batchelor, Hie missing Christchurch solicitor, was arrested in Melbourne yesterday morning. stales a. cable message received by Inspector Cameron from the Australian police.
Batchelor disappeared from Christ, church on AugusT 7 last and, on August 9th a warrant, was issued for fits arrest for alleged theft of various sums of money, including £9BO from Leonard IVi rival'Voire, whieli lie gave Batchelor to pav the purchase money on a house. As a result of a meeting of the missing soliedor’s iredi tors. Batchelor was de. elared bankrupt l>y an order made by Mr Justice Adams in the ,Sui>reme Court on September 4th. On September 9 another meeting of creditors was field, when a committee wa.s sol up to investigate Batchelor’s affairs; in. conjunction with (tie Oftieia! Assignee. Proofs of debt for sums totalling over £4,000 were 'submitted, and subsequently the members of the Cameibuiy Law Society guaranteed ttie sum of £IOO to bring Batchelor luck if he were found.
