Monthly Report by Engineer .METALLING AT KAi.MAI. The following rep ut on matters affecting roads and bridges in the County, ivite submitted by .Mr A. A. Woodward, e unly engineer, to the last meeting of the Tauranga County Council: Whahataiio- Tauranga Highway. Te Puke —Taunuiga Section. —Some widening and regrading near the. seven mile peg ha-' been done; also the approach to u dangerous corner, has been improved, and maintenance wink to jiwtal has liven carried out in several places. Paeiigaio.c -Te I’uke Seethm.— Work Ibis length has consisted generally of maintenance, grading in the metal, etc. A large amount of shingle has Ih/ch dumped in Kaiignirii Station in readiness to be caned out. on to this road, Otamarakau Paciigarua Section.— A fair amount of grading lias been done on the lower end, near Otamarakau. The road at the junction of the. Otamarakau Valley Hoad, lias been regraded, and considerably improved. A large amount of pumicing has Iwen done near Maniatutu, several of the worst places being completed. Rotorua —Paengaroa Highway. No work has been done on the road beyond ordinary maintenance, but. some further pumicing will require. t<> be done shortly. Tauranga—Mat annua Highway. About 38 chains of metalling were completed on the Upper Raima] last month, and the work there is nearing completion. 1 have arranged with the contractors to tT'iisli sonio niiuiiiciitincc metal before dismantling their plant. Repairs have lw?cn carried out to the old metal on portions of the I pjser Kaimai Road, and the road generally is in very god order. Tauranga —Waihi Highway. The work of metalling on the end of Muuro’s Deviation has Iteen completed, and repairs have been carried out to the metal on the hill nearby. 1 propose metalling two short lengths, near Dodd’s Hill liefore the weather breaks. The 1/ong Hill, near tire comity boundary, which was recently scarified, has been given a coat of metal screenings, and this portion of the road which was previously very rough, is now in first class- order. The work of metalling Iks tween Taupiro and Athenree will he put in hand as soon as authority is atv. celvcd from the Main Highways Board. I’imgarob n—Otamarakau Road. . -The legalization of the portion of the road in this County bas been eomplet. t rd, and I. understand the Publiic Works Department, who are going to do the formation, will bg making a, start on this road very shortly. -Matai Road, The work of metalling an additional four chains of road by Ross’s farm is iu band. When this is completed, and the light grader is available, I propose to give this road a trim-up to often up the wa fertilities, etc. -Rangiuru Road. Tlie hill near -Mr J. Griffin's farm required to be re-pumieed, and this nil! bo done a.s soon as arrangements can bo made. The portion from the .school down, which was recently regraded, requires trinuniiig-np before the winter -its Tn. No. 2 R U ad. The new work on Ibis road is setting down very well, hut it will require some attention with the road drag. 1 i have pegged out the position of the culverts, and measured up the timber re. qniml, and the order has Ixron given to Messrs Henry Bros. When this is delivered, the culverts will l>e pul in hand. Manoeka Road, and Kirikiri Hoad, fhe work of regrading these roads bas been completed, and should, settle down into a good surface if given another round up after the first raiiis. d propose sending the- grader on to tho Ko. 3 Road, to trim up the work already done there in the summer. Oropi Road. The contracts lot on this road have all been .started. and good progress is being nude. If the line weather now being experienced, lasts, the worst portions on this road will be completed before the winter.
