WATER SUPPLY FOR TE PUKE FARMS
TENDERS FOR SUPPLY OF PIPES A letter was read at the meeting of the Tauranga County Council yesterday from the Chief j Accountant of the Public Trust Office, Wellington, advising that the Public Trustee is holding funds for the payment of the balance of the No. 2 Road (Te Puke) water race district special rating area loan of £SOOO, and the postmaster at Tauranga has been instructed to pay the sum ot £2500 to the credit of the Council at the Bank of New Zealand. It was decided to place the money on fixed deposit until it is required. Mr F. S. Dyson, district engineer of the Public Works Department, wrote under date October 20 regarding the Te Puke water supply scheme : “ With reference to your memorandum of 23rd ultimo; I have to advise that the Engineer-in-Chief has seen the plans and advises that they appear satisfactory and may be approved. Will you, therefore, please forward a further set of the plans and specifications so that a properly approved copy can be returned to you. Apparently the reticulation is to he left to the individual owners and I take it that your County Council fully realises the necessity for controlling the draw-off at the upper portion of, the system so that the lower end will not be run short. In accordance with the usual procedure the items in the estimate for engineering and miscellaneous (chiefly legal expenses), totalling £4lO, cannot be allowed to receive any subsidy benefit. An authority of £2472, on a basis of £3 for £5, is being asked for, to be issued to your county.” Mr Woodward said the matter had received his attention. Tenders were being invited for the supply of pipes.
