"PONTO” —AND MR. TUCK.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l cxave your indulgence only once more, to thank you, and, as you like dog stories, to draw a simile of an editor to a dog I once owned, named Ponto. Ponto was an ugly brute, what is cafled a "beardie," but had a fine curly tail, of which he was extremely proud, and was as game as an ant. He met three dogs one day. The lot took to him, one by the ear, one by the tail and the otlier by the side. It looked bad for Ponto, I tell you. Some of the fellows wanted to take them off him but I said, "taihoa." But Ponto was a general, and wEen things got too hot for his tail, he let go tho dog's ear and took to Ha front paw. Result: exit , No 1 He did the same to No. 2. But it was'difficult to get to the dog chewing his tail. However by a little strategy and losing some hair off the J e nd of his tail he got the i other one by the ear. ! awful howling. Sir, the Editor of a I paper is Ponto; the correspondents who attack him are t he other dogs, and you. being able to have'the last word, have, so to speak, our paws in. your mouth all the time, and, like Ponto. let us go | in till we pull Iris tail too much, when 1 we are given, our exit by a nice little j footnote" like a nip on the paw. How- ! ever. Sir, I wish to sincerely thank vou for publishing my literary efforts, ; and ns no doubt you. like myself, had j an object in view , our mutual desires I are attained. At any rate, mine is. T » hnnr. to:>, that you have no animus to mo or those who have been trying to mill your tail, and when we meet on j howlina green. 1 hope you have not my paw in your m~ntV So -ond-bye, ' Mr Editor. r.rtd, as our mothers always +f>M us., hands find be friend*, i —T am, etc. I O.
