WELCOME AT MAUNGAWHARE.

The party then made a move to ' “Maungawhare,” the home of Mr aud Mrs A. Osborne. Here numerous residents of Otumoet'ai assembled to welcome the Aucklanders. Tea and refreshments were handed round by several young ladies. Songs, reci- ; tations and part singing added enjoyment to the occasion, the conrtibutora being Mrs J. Foster, Misses Burton (2), and Messrs White (yacht Dclville), and Osborne. Mrs Johnson played the accompaniments. The musical programme was arranged by Mr Ross Meikle. Many of - those present enjoyed themselves at croquet and quoits. Mr Osborne personally conducted many of the visitors through the picturesque grounds which abound in native trees and shrubs. During the afternoon Mr C. F. Oliver, President of the Regatta ' Club, thanked Mr and Mrs Osborne for the reception tendered to the visitors.

Mr C. E. Macmillan, M.P., endorsed the remarks of the first, speak er. He paid a tribute to the hospitality of Mr and Mrs Osborne and said they were famed for the "open house” which they always extended to visitors to 1 Tauranga. Mr J. C. Hew son, Secretary of

Yacht Squadron, in returning thanks for the Aucklanders, voiced

his appreciation of Die hospitality ■ extended by Mr and Mrs Osborne and the people of Tauranga generally. The annual trip to Tauranga, he said, was now becoming an event

in Auckland yachting circles, and the “hospitality” of Tauranga was expanding every year. Mr G. Mobberley, Secretary of tile Victoria Cruising Club, endorsed the remarks of MrHewson, and said the visitors would carry away with them pleasant recollections of their visit to Maungawhare. * A very pleasant function closed with hearty cheers for Mr and Mrs Osborne, and Mr and Mrs Murray . Munro 1 , followed by the singing of “For They are Jolly Good Fellows.” Several of the yachtsmen then carried Mr Osborne shoulder high from the verandah across the lawn towards the entrance gate. The visitors were entertained to a social dance’ in the supper room of the Town Hall last night. A very pleasant time was spent. To-night the Aucklanders and other visitors will he the guests of the Regatta Club at a smoke social to be held in flip Coronation Hall.
