THE HOLIDAYS

The local shops* are wearing the usual festive appearance at this period of the year, and given fine weatether there is every prospect of good Christmas buying and selling.^ . ' ■.'■‘The shops will be open on Saturday evening as usual and again on Monday evening (Christmas Eve). All the shops close on Tuesday and Wednesday (Christmas Day and Box ing Day), but while the bakers and giocers close on Tuesday, Wed ires- ; day and Thursday in New Year week, with the usual half-day Thursday, the drapers, etc., close on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and remain open all day Thursday. The legal offices close from tomonow—Friday—until January 8. The timber yards of Messrs A. B. Hammond and S. Pemberton will be closed from Saturday next, reopening on January 3rd. The Bay of Plenty Times will net be published on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The chief attraction during the holidays will of course be the Regatta on Thursday. The ocean tace, however, commences on Saturday, the boats reaching here on Sunday. On Boxing Day there will be the Foresters’ picnic at the Mount plantation.

The Postal and Telegraph arrangements for the holidays are announced elsewhere in this issue. A special holiday time-table to l the Mount ferry service will be advertised to-morrow.
