McSweeney Takes Turn for
Worse

The widow of Sheehy Skeffington, who was shot during the Dublin rebellion in Easter, 1916, inquired this morning at Brixton Prison concerning McSweeney's condition. He was then still conscious. New Type of Outrage. Australian «.n<i N.Z. Cable Association Rec Sept 13, morning London, Sept 11 A new type of outrage has commenced in Ireland. In the presence of a large crowd, an engine-driver was chained to a tramway standard, with a
placard, inscribed "scab," across his chest. Another man was blindfolded and bound to a telegraph pole in the chief street of Carrickmacross, with a placard bearing the words, "I am a thief. I stole eggs," fastened to him.
Another body of Sinn Feiners seized ex-Captain Murphy, a wellknown Tralee man, while golfing, and stripped him and tarred him from head to waist. It is alleged he had applied for a Cadetship in the Irish Constabulary. Dublin City Council Magistrates Resign, United Service. p London, Sept II The Dublin City Council Magistrates resigned in a body as a protest against the Government's Irish policy- They adopted a resolution, praying that the Government *be granted wisdom to avert widening the breach by not allowing MeSweeney to die. Hunger Strikers Unconscious. Australian and N.Z. Cable Assoc. . London, Sept 12 The majority of the hunger strikers in Cork are unconscious. It is reported that in pursuance of their recent request the prison doctors ceased to attend them. Nuns from the local convent take turns at the bedside. Sinn Feiners in Scotland Rec Sept 13 ,8.50 a m % London, Sept *2 Four thousand Sinn Feiners at Glasgow are secretly drilling under ex service instructors. It is understood that the police, who are watching developments, know -the ringleaders, and will be able at a given moment to seize the hoards of rifles. Many other Sinn Feiners in Lanarkshire, Fifeshire, and the Lothians are drilling with dummy rifles.
