Tin; Public Works Department, vVellington, has forwarded to the Tauranga County Council authority for the expenditure of £400, £1 for £1, for metalling of 6tj chains ot road near the 29 mile, peg, Katikati ; also authority for the expenditure of £1,340, on £1 -for £1 basis, on the work of metalling 167 chains of the Te Puke-Paengaron Read between the level crossing and Paengaroa. The Tauranga Junior footballers journeyed to Te Puke on Saturday, and played a drawn match against a Te Puke team. Early in the game A. Rowc kicked a penalty goal for Tauranga, and in the last few minutes of the, match a native scored for Te Puke. The try was not converted. Mr P. Flynn carried out the duties of referee in his usual (inn and efficient manner.

The a.k. Tuhoe, Captain Kennedy, arrived here at ten o'clock yesterday morning from Whangaparapara, Great Barrier, with about seventy tons of plant from the Barrier Reef mine for Muir's Gold Reefs, Te Puke. She has also brought thirteen horses. The vessel Paroto called in here yesterday from Auckland, and as soon as the weather is suitable goes on to Whakatanc. MrR. King, Chairman of the. The information is sought on behalf of the Marlborough Patriotic Association. A social in aid of the funds of the Holy Trinity Church Junior Guild will be held in the Parish Hall on, Thursday next at 7.30. A very good musical programme has been arranged, and competitions will also be held. Supper will be provided by members of the Guild. The New Zealand Rugby team, which is to tour Australia, played an Auckland fifteen at Auckland pn Saturday. The ground was heavy after recent rain and the game ended in a draw, the score being eleven points all. The monthly meeting of the ■lauranga District High School Committee will be held at 7.30 this evening. The Tauranga County Council, at its meeting on Friday last, voted £2 2s to the funds of the Auckland Railways League. Mr E. Chadban returned on baturday from a holiday visit to New South Wales. At the meeting of the lauranga County Council on Friday a letter was read from the Manavvatu County Council, asking that combined action be taken with a view to having legislation passed wnich would give drastic powers to magistrates dealing with motorists convicted of driving at excessive speed, or in a manner which is dangerous to the oublic. —It was agreed to support the request. I Mr J. F. Wintle, land agent; ! reportsihe sale of Mr C. T. Pros ser's farm of 78 acres in the Gate Pa district to Mr L. Dunne, of VVaerenga, Waikato, at a very satisfactory figure. Mr Wintle intimates that he wiil be pleased to receive particulars of properties for sale. The question of appointing an engineer, from the applications received at the June meeting, was considered by the County Council on Friday, when it was decided to further adjourn the matter for another month. An auction sait of household furniture and effects will be held by Messrs H. H. McCarthy and Co, en behalf of Mr C. T Harding, Park Street, The Camp, at I.JO p.m. to-morrow.
