IMPRESSIVE POLISH CEREMONY

Territory Once More Reaches

the Baltic

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. Rec. Feb. 13, 9 a.m London, Feb 12 The Daily Chronicle's Polish correspondent states that Putzig, a seaside resort in the Baltic, was ! the scene of a memorable ceremony on the ioth inst. Polish cavalry, under General Haller, rode fetlock deep into the waves symbolising that Poland's territory once more reaches to the Baltic. Polish troops completed the occupation of the corridor separating the rest of Prussia from Dantzig. The populace boisterously welcomed the troops, the roads being garlanded with flowers. In the presence of detachments of British, French and other Allies, and amid the broming of guns, Haller's cavalry rode into the half-frozen waters of the Gulf of Dantzig. As they rode i back from the sea they dismounted and closed around a flagstaff, the Catholic Bishop dedicating the Polish Colours. General Haller drew off a golden ring and flung it far seaward, crying, "As Venice symbolised her marriage with the Adriatic, so we Poles symbolise our re-marriage with our dear Baltic."
