"When you took the chair, your worship," said Cr Wrigley at Wednesday night's Council meeting, "You were full of zeal, and promised to have an inventory made of all yoods and articles in. the possession of the borough. Did you ever get it?" "No,"Veplied the Mayor. "I have" never seen it," said Cr Wrigley, "and ♦hought that perhaps the matter had been overlooked."

A combined meeting ot the committees of the Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, to consider the matter of the visit of the Prince of Wales, will h? held in the Borough Council Chambers at 7.30 this evening. The Borough Council on Wednesday night adopted a recom mendation of the Finance Committee that the Borough solicitors be informed that accounts handed to them by the Council for collection should be sued for by next Court day.

The question of the appointment of additional members of the Ministry will be discussed at a meeting of members of theßeform Party to be held in Wellington to-morrow afternoon. A large gathering ofjmembers is expected.

That the Whakatane Shovv is a permanent fixture of the Bay of Plenty is evidenced by the very rapid strides which the Association has made of late years. Each year has seen their yards and pens filled to overflowing with the result that additions have been made to the pens every year. This year is no exception, some 24 new cattle pens having just been erected, and other improvements to the ground effected. Another sure sign of the progress of the Association is the donations to the prize list, over £400 having been subscribed, which has enabled the committee to offer very substantial prizes, as a glance at the advertisement in this issue will show. As entries are coming in freely it only re quires the people's patronage to make the show eclipse all the former efforts of the Association, Entries close on the 16th inst. Those who contemplate visiting the show should note that Mr Maurice Crimmins is running a special car.

Amongst visitors to Tauranga this week were Messrs J. B. Me Ewan and K. Duncan, of Wellington.

A recommendation of the Works Committee to the Borough Council on Wednesday night that the portion of Cameron Road from Roberts Street to the hospital be formed in readiness for metalling evoked an emphatic protest from Cr Wrigley who surmised that this was- simply another effort on the part of the committee to circumvent the resolution of the Council to finish metalling Devonport Road as far as Elizabeth Street. This work had been authorised, he said, and should certainly be completed before any othei works outside the loan were put in hand, Cr Tanuer explained that it was necessary to plough this.portion of the road and this would have to be done to allow the road to consolidate before it was metalled. All the work scheduled under the loan would have to be done first and Devonport Road , and this portion of Cameron Road would be put in hand afterwards. 1
