MOTOR CARS.
] At the meeting of the Tauranga :;County Council yesterday, a letter was ■read from Mr Wieknam, H.M. Trade 'Commissioner, Wellington, who wrote ire registration of motor cars. He saiel ■he was connected solely with the Bri? *tish Government and not in any wa| with that of the Dominion. He had •ascertained from the Department of Affairs that in order to be, T .come a registering authority the Council will have to pass a resolution adopting the Act. When this re colif 7 foon has been gazetted the Council can iapply to the Department for the allocation of letted and numbers, for re^ gistering purposes. He has asked the 'Department to send the Council a copy tof the Act. There are, he under* stands, no bylaws except those framed by each particular locality. • *; '] Mr H. T. Lysaght wrote re registrar "tion of motor cars, and asked to have' ■ a letter saying that he had applied fora number as he is supposed to have one on his car.
Cr. Gray favored licensing motor cars at 10s each and motor bicycle 3at os. He moved: That this Council adopt the Act authorising the registration of motor cars and motor bicjees.
Cr. Spence seconded, apd the motion was carried.
The County Clerk, Patea, wrote intimating that motor cars are prohibited on some of the road,1} in that district.
Cr. Matthews spoke in favor of barring the cars absolutely on certain dangerous roads.
Cr. Gray spoke in favor of barring the cars.
Cr. Matthews said motor bicyele3 were dangerous and could be barred. No action was taken.
