ITALIANS LAND AT RHODES.
Rome, May 6
A large force of Italian troops, under General Amegilo, effected a landing at Rhodes unopposed. A squadron, composed of the battleships Vittorio Emanuele, Regina Elena, Napol, and Roma, left Hampalia on Friday night with lights out. They steamed at half-speed to the island of Charki, ten miles west of Rhodes. Another squadron followed, conveying a landing force of 8000 The vessels concentrated at 2 a.m., and arrived at Rhode 3at 3.30. * One section of the fleet then demonstrated in the harbor and the other guarded the disembarkation of. the troops in a bay eight itriles south of the town.

The Turkish troops did not appear, and the warships did not fire a shot. The Turks v/ithdrew to a plateau five miles pouth-west of Rhodes, where General Ameglio immediately attacked them in order to prevent them withdrawing to the centre of the island. Several bayonet charges were made. The Italians had, five men wounded, but took fifty Turkish prisoners.
The Turks are now on a small peninsula on the northern end of the island, where the warships are able to cooperate so a3 to enfilade both flanks. Two attempts were made by the Turks to recover Lebda, but the attacker were repulsed with heavy losses.
