Board of Education.

Auckland, Tuesday.—At the meeting of the Auckland Board of Education to-day the voting papers for the election of throe members of the Board were opened and the votes counted. 255 voting papers were issued to the School Committee in the Auckland district; 239 have been returned to the Board with the names of the candidates filled in.

The voting papers were counted and checked with tiie result that the following gentlenTseri were found to be elected to the Board in place of Messes Lambe, Muir and Bates, whoretire in rotation:— J. R Reed, 141 votes; J. Muir, 139; Richard Hobbs, 133; Lambe, 111; Bagnali, 101; Campbell, 77; Percivalj 5.

Auckland, Wednesday. — Before Mr Brabant, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday afternoon, George W. Gilmer was charged that he did on December 22nd steal £65 the property of the Northern Steamship Company. Mr Hesketh said that as a number of accused's friends had offered to subscribe to get accused away from the Colony t and as I restitution had been made, he would ask that the charge be withdrawn and this was accordingly done and accused discharged. Napier, Tuesdays—The Bank of New Zealand waa prosecuted under the Shop Assistants Act for working its clerks at unlawful -hours. The facts were not disputed but for the defence it was urged that the clerks were, not engaged in the ordinary business of the Bank, the work was' in connection with a notice to produce documents given by other parties in an action in the Supreme Court against the Bank.

They had to produce correspondence extending over three years between the Head office and the Napier* branch. The correspondence had nothing to do with current business of the Bank.
