EARTHQUAKE IN SOUTHERN EUROPE.
(reuter's telegrams.) Paris, February 23. Several severe shocks of earthquake were experienced this morning about six o'clock, at Cannes, Nice, and Mentone. Many houses collapsed. So far as known no loss of life has occurred. Rome, February 23. The earthquake experienced this morning at Cannes and Nice extended throughout Northern Italy, doing an immense amount of damage in Riviera, where hundreds of persons are reported killed. Rome, February 24. The earthquake yesterday proved an immense (disaster. The town of Dianorina and several villages were almost completely destroyed. It is estimated that fully 1,500 lives were lost. London, February 24<. _ It is stated that Rudolpho, in his table of eclipses, predicted there would be earthquakes on the occasion of the eclipse of the sun which has just taken place. __^__ -——-— =
