James Stewart Esq. C.E. arrived on Thursday. The first sod of the railway will be turned on Thursday next, ilrs Graham has been invited to perform the ceremony . A banquet will be given in honor of the occasion, there is great rejoicing throughout the district. Works will be commenced on Friday morning, Mr Edwards organises the working party and will also superintend the works.
Wellington last night. All the Cabinet ministers are now here with the exception of Mr Larnach, and Cabinet meetings are being held. H.M. S. Nelson arrived from the north yesterday and was visited by the members of the Cabinet. The Sheriff of Auckland this lnornin* jtelegraphed to the Minister of Justice stating that the execution of Caffrey and Perm was satisfactorily carried out.
Palmebston nobih last night. Feara have been entertained that the township would be burnt down, owing to the large number of bush fires "round about, the fire brigade have been out all day, several houses have been burnt down but the wind is falling and the danger is over for the present. ,
