TOWN BOARD CANDIDATES.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —There are at present ten candidateain tho field for Town Board honors, a fact which at any rate shows that tho reputed imbecile management of the retiring Board haa had the effect of bringing some of the big guns to the front. The serbonian bog created by "moral suasion" kept the poor lawyer shut up until the moisture got to his. roots, and caused him to sprout, but not greenly, and now he imagines himself thocoming Chairman, and in one respect, though, not of public utility, lie would not be a bad successor. R.C., although why he should: be so called, I have no. idea,, is amongst tho talked of "new 'una," and oa the town does not extend as far as Judea possibly he might. attend to the duties of the station,. At any rate he can lay the flattering unction to his soul that he has done moro for the advancement of settlement in the district than any other man in the place, but as qualifications. of this sort combined with common sense arerather a drawback I do not like to mention; them. Next on the list comes the Gate Pah J.P. candidate. He will introduce somo. new measures, all of an advanced nature. He seems particularly well versed in how local bodies should get overdrafts ; besides, he. has a pet scheme of reclaiming the Judea. flat to prevent accidents. While this would make a large area habitable it would advance civilisation. On this ground alone, which is purely a public one, he should have the support of the ratepayers. He is pretty certain of success, as he has placed himself under the patronage of, and intends running with our Parliamentary medium, the working man's champion, whose thorough knowledge of everything makos any remarks on his abilities superfluous. There is certainly one thing which tho latter intends doing when elected—that is to have finger-posts-ercctod pointing out tho non -gazetted roads, so that cows will be able to stand on theboundary, aud graze on the road without trespassing. This may not interest the present generation of cows, as it depends on his election. The two foregoing have been pledged the support of tho 1.0. G.T. (I often get tight) band. Fire—tire—fire I —the next on the list—knows a thing a two. He would no doubt make a useful member, being in favour of the reclamation scheme. The gallant Captain is also a competitor. He merely wishes re-election to complete his experiments. He is under the impression that if the chocolate clay, found on the beach, was put in proper wooden boxes, made purposely to fit the depressions in the roads so that the drainage could not touch it, it would stand, and be an improvement. He is also adverse to the system pursued by his colleagues of employing the surfacemen to put loose clay in the gutters just before rain to test thecapacity of the drain-pipes and the levels of tho Engineers. Tho pump, a matter concerning the ratepayers deeply, he has an opinion on, as also the Town Board debt. He wishes it distinctly understood he had nothing to do with it—ho only went to the bank, negotiated the loan, received tho money, and paid it away 1 And if his colleagues had backed him up part of the contract for the pump would be waiting payment. still untirthe contractor apologised for calling him an old woman. Mr C. will be to tho fore again, ready to paint any colour you. like; and Mr C. No. 2 will rely on the Quarter Acres to support him, and for the day of the election will apply for an amnesty for tho Quarter Aero cattle. Dear old Joe will bo out again, and of course success is certain. He's not a bad fellow, and I should like to soo him returned.—l am, &.,
