Few things do more to benefit arising agricultural district than a well-con-ducted Annual Race Meeting. . We are therefore glad to observe that considerable interest is being : taken in the forthcoming reunions, and sincerely trust they may prove- unpreeedentedly successful. So- far, the Tauranga* stnwards have worked most, energetically/and: ttiero Will not only be two , Idays* racing for. rea}ly,yaluabie prizes, but a number of matches on the 31st !inßt;besideß.' We consequently expeet!an unusually large attendance, and Ihop'e more 'especially 'fti'at' the fair sex ' will ,turn out in force. - . ,Th.er,e.,can; bel ■no reason why they should not do so, for these country races are entirely devoid of. the objectionable features customary at metropolitan meetings. Wo blatant bookmakers,- with -rude\ r oaths and strange phrases, disturb the h armony of the scenes, and even ■' ' Cheap Johns" are few and far between. The whole- affair partakes more of 'the nature of a friendly picnic, and the man must be- hard, indeed to please who does not heartily enjoy himself at such gatherings. •
