TAURANGA MECHANICS' INSTITUIE.
\ . TO THE EBITOB. Sir,— Vow that the. above Institute has i(a . coat of arms on indian rubber, do you .not .. think it advisable that, a number of leather^ medals should be struck oiF. bear ing. the same, or, if that is not convenient, get a corresponding number of ginger bread cakes, and hare them presented in-due-sftwm to the membeia of the indefatigable Committee of Manage- . meot which was elected some two months -> ago, and with' the ■ said donatioa, request . them to take their discharge ? as lam sure, after the immense amount they have done for • it,< they must be nearly all knocked up, more eepeoially the Book Committee; Elect, ing a Committee seems to be done like most/ other things in Tauranga : subscribers v-ota for members, and never consider whether they are suitable or nob co long aa they have ho private grievance to revenge. I can plainly see that we roust have a new Committee be* fore the Institute will make any advancement. . It sounds very nice to read Captain E. G., President; Bank of' New Zealand, Vice- *■ President; Captain A. W., Treasurer, &o.i , but whafcia the use of them filling positions when they do not fulfil the duties appended.. TbiDgfj were done in quite a different man* aor under our last President ; people thought ihey were not then vhajb. they ought to b,.,. but I'm sorry to cay they have gone from bad to worse, if our Ex-President could only find time to attend to the duties and would accept offioe, I cbnßidor it would be a great benefit to the Institute ; and, if it is through. , over work, or personal duty, that our present President does not attend to his duties, why does he not resign and make room for a better - man ? He may say it is" merely an office in name, but,- for a young lostitulo like this, we want an energetic roan at the head of it, ' not quite a matter of necessity that a Captain thould be fixed to his name. If it would not be too presumptupus ..in me to suggest,' l. should say elect, a. Committee out of those ... who attend there regularly, that see, know, .. and feel the. wants felt by the general public -■ — it is not show we want, but practical menu... —I am, &c., ; .
