The olimatio conditions for some time past have been all that could be desired, and consequently farm work has got pretty well on. but the weather has set in very wet and the ground is getting a good soaking, which will delay any work for some time. Owiog to the fine winter tho clay roads are in very fine condition and will require very little work on most of the principal roads. There is quite an upheaval in the dis* trict owing to the lessee of Ferndale locking the '•gate leading to the half chain road that is the nearest to Waihola road for the Akatore people, and unless this gate ia available there is every likelihood that he will be compelled to fence both sides of the sur* veyed This track has been* used for over 40 yearß and a lot of county money haß been spent on this road, so the sooner the lessee realises the position and takes off his padlock and puts on a proper gate that the wind cannot blow open, the better it will be. On Friday night an entertainment was given by the children of the Taiori Beach School, and was well attendedby the parents and residents of the district There was a lengthy programme, 10 items being the children's Bhare, several of the songs being carried out in character, and all these were loudly applauded and encores demanded. Miss Strain evi* i dently had taken great pains with their training. A novel feature of the concert was the tableaus accompanying somo of the songs contributed by the adult portion of the performers descriptive of the subject of their song. The programme was as follows Opening speech. Master B. Joseph ; song, " A Hundred Pipers," .children ; song, '• A Baby's Troubles," infants; Song, Mrs Patterson ; dialogue, " Ask and Have," obildren; Nursery Rhymes (in character), juniors; recitation, Miss N. Morgan; song, "Redwing " (tableau), children; 'song, Mrs Ooutts; song, '• Rose of No Man's Land,'' (tableau), Miss N. Whalen; monologue, Miss Net* Whalen; song, ''Gipsy's Warning '' (tableau), Mrs Turner ; song, " Midahipmite." children ; dialogue, boys Japanese song (in character); girlß' dialogue, girls; recitation, W. McOutcheoD. After supper was fierved dancing was indulged in, and a very pleasant evening faas brought to a close, Mr J. Jooeph was in the chair, and oalled for three cheers for Miss Shaw and all who had helped to make the concert a saccess.
