Milburn-Clarenon Notes.

(From Our Own! Correspondent). By last mail word was /received con*, earning the death of Private Robert Hare. Captain J. R. Cade wrote: "I regret to inform you that Private Robert Hare was wounded when on patrol one night by a machine-gun bullet, and died soon after the stretcher bearers got him into the trench, We buried him next morning in a little cemoLery just behind the front line. He was a brave soldier."

At a meeting of the Church Committee it was decided to hold the anniversary services in September, and the annual social later in the month.

The annual meeting of the locai branch of the P.W. M,U- was held at Mrß Tomlrinson'fc on Thursday week. The report and balance-sheet wore read by the secretary (Mrs Pilling), and unanis mously adopted. Mrs W. Grey was re* elected president, Mrs Somorville vicepresident, and Mrs Piliing secretary and treasure*. »

The annual report was read as follows:

"During the past year, June 1917 to June 1918, four meetings have been held, one each at the residence of Mrs Grey, the mah-e, Mrs Brabyn, and the vestry. Collectors have, as usual, faithfully done the work they undertook, and to these our branch owes its gratitude, as the direct giving of money relieves the members of the work of preparing for sales as used to be done. The Bad calls of the world's war still demands of our hands, as well as of our purses, all the help we can give towards providing comforts for our increasing numbers of suffering young manhood.

" Our branch/ lost two members during the year in Mrs Bringans and Miss Brabyn, both of whom have left the district. However, as the gaps were filled by Mrs Alexander and Mrs Tomkinsoo, our roll number still remains the same—l 3 members.

" At our September meeting a discusi sion resulted in the formation of a " Busy Bees Hive," which, under Mrs Cawley's superintendence, with Misses E, Brabyn, A. Qomerville, and J. Wright as leaders, has done good work for the cause of mis&ion. We have to thank them for their donation of £3 toward our Home Mission department, and we wish them a successful continuance of the good work they have begun so well. " Meetings at the various corners of the district have proved successful in maintaining interest and attendance. " Mrß Cawley and Mrs Pilling represented us as delegates at the General Assembly conference in Dunedin. The balance-sheet showed the receipts to have been £til 10s 6d, while the ex« penditure amounted to JEI9 103 4d, leaving a credit balance of £2 0s 2d,
