(From Our Own Correspondent). Eain commenced" to fall here last Saturday evening, and continued steadily all Sunday. Practically all tbe low-lying land in the township ia under water. The flaxmill and plant are submerged, and the creeks are up to the bridge timbers. Tbe winter is trying to our old folks; at present there are no fewer than three confined to their beds. Mr F, Payne is on the mend; Mr T. Andrews has been in feeble health for some time past, and Mr A. Orlowski, senr,, is also somewhat seriously ill, The annual sale in connection with the. Presbyterian Church is to be held shortly. A canvass of the district is being made for produce, etc., and, I understand, is meeting with a ready re* sponse, Complimentary Social The residents of Waihola and district met in the Public Hall last Thursday evening, in honor of Trooper Rigby Morgan, of the 27th Reinforcements, who is down on final leave. A short programme of songs, eto , wa's given by the following performers, and much appreciated : - Overture, " Marsellaise," Misß 0. Wisnesky ; Bong, "Gallants of Eog* land," Mr Oarvalho; song, " A Soldier and a man," Mr Huddlenton; song, » The Long Trail," Mr R FJUowfield ; duet. " Silvery Moon," Mr and Mrs Oairney ; song, " The Woodpecker,'' Mr Vl'Lenn »n; song, " The firing line," Mips Wisnesky ;song, " The Trumpeter," .Vlr Caimey ; recitation, " Betty Brown," bagpipe selection, "Ye banks and braes," Mr Robins. Mrs A, Annis and Mrs Caimey acted as acoompanistes. At the conc'usion of the progamme Mr Kirby, on behalf of the Waihola residents, presented Trooper Morgan with a wristlet watch The speaker, in a few happy words, referred to the eßteem in which T«nper Morgan is held ia the district, and his willingness to assist in anything for its benefit. He hoped the recipient would be spared to wear the watch for many years after the war is over. Mr Faliowfield also spoke a few words, in which ho said he had known their guest for iiHoy ycers, in fact since hia chiS.ibood, and had always? found him a sjood lad, and was sure he would prove a capital sol lier.
