THE TAXATION PROPOSALS, WELLINGTON, August 20. It is understood that the Budget will probably propose fresh taxation amounting to the vicinity of £2,000,000. When the financial necessities of the Dominion on account of the war aire realised the likelihood of (this amount being required is quite apparent. Authority has been taken to borrow £10,000,000 for war purposes. This will cost £600,000 peir year. War pensions are estimated) to cost about £1,000,000, while the loss of revenue owing to. the •fall in Customs receipts will necessitate the balance. lam not dm a position to state in What directions the new taxation will be raised.
