MILE-A-MINUTE ARMY.

FOR AEROPLANE TRANSPORT. Several important new developments in Army and Navy aeronautics have occurred in the last few weeks (stated the aeronautical correspondent of, the 'Daily Mail' lately). The result is to put the two services upon a new footing, and it is hoped to increaso the leatl in,the matter of design which, according to many expert critics of the recent Paris aeroplane show, British aeroplanes already hold over the best French machines. The Navy has now taken over all the airships btult for the Army at the Roya] Aircraft Factory at Farnhorough and will have by tiio end of the year a fleet of 14 airships of the Astra Torres, Parseval, Forlanini and British Army types. The fact to which many military flying men take objection is that the Army is thus left without airships of any kind. On the other hand, the Army flyers confidently believe that the newest types of toropianes aro superior to ady other machines in existence. Tho two newest types are the R.K 2 and F.E. 2. The latest machines have a maximum speed of 91 miles an hour and a minimum of 44. They have been built as the result of experiments at the Aircraft Factory which have been conducted in secrecy and without regard to expense. The best tribute to them is that Army officers in general prefer to fly in these machines than in those of any outside constructor, although it is! admitted that the British private constructor is now turning out machines of first-class merit.
