"The seventh annual spring show was held on Thursday, 25th September, 1918. "Mr Hamel acted as judge and was assisted by Miss Salmond in the decorative section. The quality of flowers entered for competition was, very good, and, in several sections competition was very teen. The judge remarked on the steady improvement of locally grown blooms stating that the show was the best country show he had seen. A particularly tine display of blooms for "exhibition only" was made by exhibitors from Lawrence and Dunedin. A feature of this show was the plant stall which was a great success. "The fourteenth annual autumn show was held on 12th February. JL'liere wafc a large increase of entries at this show the numbers being 502 as against 40U last year. Competition was particularly keen in the vegetable section the vegetable being in first-class condition. Outside exhibitors from Dunedin, Kauangata and Lawrence were well represented and the judge, Mr Clark, of Fairfield, expressed Himself agreeably surprised at the koen' competition throughout. Mr Clark was assisted by Mrs Small in the decorative section, in t which section . the number of entries constituted a record. "The attendance showed a marked improvement over the last few shows; the door takings being nearly doubled. "The membership shows a falling off as compared with last year. The Society is still in rather a weak position financially, and a more thorough canvass for membership is required. "In conclusion your committee wish to thank all who have assisted the society, especially donors of prizes and exhibitors from a distance, and hopes that all interested in the society will do their best to interest others and help to make the sooiety's show still more successful." i!alai.ce-:heet.
