1 On Friday evening about 50 gentlemen assombled at the County Charners for the purpose of expressing their appreciation of Mr and Mrs John Farquharson, who have recently disposed or their farming property at North Branch, and taken up residence in well-earned retirement in Milton. The chair was occupied by Mr W Moore, who was supported on his right hand by Mr Donald Reid and the guest of the evening, Mr Faxqu-' liarson. Numerous toasts were honored prior to the principal toast of the evening. "Onr Guest," which was proposed by ,the chairman, who referrred to his lengthy acquaintance with Mr Farquhar&ou, extending back to the late 'GO's. Their guest £had been a staunch supporter of the Toko Farmers' Club, and was one of the first farmers substantial financial support in the establishment of the Bruce Woollen Mills. He richly deserved well-earned retirement from active farming pursuits. Mr Donald Reid, who was called upon to make the presentation, in-, characteristically humorous terms, referred to his ■ personal acquaintanceship with Mr Farquharson, and instanced the spirit of friendly rivalry engendered between himself and their guest in former years in competing at the Toko Farmers' Club's winter siiows Mr and Mrs Farquharson were worthy residents, who had endeared themselves in the hearts of their neighbours. Mr Farquharson had proved himself a model farmer, was always willing to give the benefit of his sound advice to farmers of less experience, and his farm was an object lesson to the rising generation. It afforded him (Mr Reid) great pleasure to ask Mr Farquharsun's acceptance of two handsome upholstered easy chaire, which were accompanied with heartiest wishes of all for long and happy j life in Mr and Mrß Farquharson's retirement.—(Loud applause). Testimonies of appreciation were also voiced by Messrs Alex Wisely, Jas Aitcheson, Jas Bruce, J B Norrie, Jas M'jbeod, R Robertson, T Scott, W Grey, and J W Petrie. Mr Farquharson responded in brief, but suitable terms, expressing his heartfelt thanks for the handsome tokens and kindly words accompanying same. The other toasts honored were "Array and Navy" (proposed by Mr D Reid), responded to by Mr E B Jones); "Parliament," (proposed by Mr T Scott, responded to by Mr R Milue); "Agricultural 'and Pastoral Industries" (proposed by the chairman, acknowledged by Messrs W Grey and J B Norrie); "Local Bodies," proposed by Mr H W Hilton, by Messrs A M'Kechnie and D Reid); "Toko Farmers' Club" (proposed by Mr E B Jones, responded to by Messrs J B Norrie, J M'Leod and Jas Paul).
