BALCLUTHA sALES.

Messrs Maolean and Co. report having held Ibelr fortnightly stock sale at Balolutha on Friday. Their entry comprised 1012 sheep, 386 lambi, 15 pifca, 51 oattle. There was the usnal attendance of farmer! and other*, bat demand was slow and dlfflonlt to effect. They told for Messrs Brown and Rattray Hall, P Watt A. H. Anderson, N. Beach, R. Tnlloob, Thomas Johnson, P. Ayson. Penman, A. Thomas, James Davidson William Harvey, James Jarvle, W. Morton, A. Tweed, and Mrs Campbell at the following prices : — Wethers to 7s Hd, ewes to 5* 6d, , lambs to 6s 6d, rams to lsg, pigs to 13s 6d, bullocks to £4 12a 6d, yearlings 15?. Stronaob Bros, and Morris report for week ending April 27th, 1898, as follows :— Fat Cattle. — 157 head yatdad, only a few being prime bullocks. There was a good demand for prime beef, bat medium and Inferior was almost unsaleable. Bast bullocks sold at L7 10s to L9, medium L5 10s to L7, Inferior, L4 to L5 ss. Best cows and heifers L5 10« to L6 10*. medium L3 to L5, Inferior LI to L2 10s. Fat Sheep.— l3oo penned. Best ewes 7s 3d to 9« 3d, (a few extra heavy to 12s 6d), medium 5s 6d to 7s, Inferior 2s to 4s. L«mbs.— 342 penned. Bacon pigs sold very well at late quotations, but prices for all other sorts were about 5s lowrr than tboie rnling last week. Rabbitskins.— Bidding was very brisk at Monday's sale and prices were fully up to lait week's. Incoming skins sold at 12d to 13£d, autumns lOd to llfd, summers 6d to 81, suckers and half grown 2£d to o^d per lb. Sheepskins. — There was a good attendance of buyers at Tuesday 1 ! sale, when bidding was spirited and prices well maintained, Beit dry oroitbreds sold at 4s to 5s 6d, medium 2i 9d to 3s 91, inferior Is lOd to 2a 6d, pelts 44 to Is Bd, best merinos 3a 3d 4s 6d. medinm 2s to 3s, inferloa li 4d to 1« lOd, pelts 3d to Is 3d, green pelts Is 9d to 2t lOd, do lambs 2s to 2« 6d. Hides.— Market firm. Prime heavy oi 3£d to id, medium 2hi to 3d, light and Inferior lid to 2£d per lb. Tallow.— All consignments are readily dlposed of at following rates. — Best rendered muttofi 12a 6 J to 14a, medium lla to 12s, Inferior 9» to 10j 6d, rough fat 8a to 10s per owt. Wheat— There has been a better demand during the week, and prices all round show so mo improvement. Quotations : Prime milling velvet 4s 8d to 4s 9d, medium 4i 5d to 4» 7d, prime Tuscan 4s 7d to 4s Bd, medinm 4s 4d to 4s 6d, fowl wheat 3s to 4 < per bushel (sacks in, terms). Oats.— -There has been a briak demand during the week, and prices have advanced folly l£d during the week.
