POLICE COURT, MILTON.

(Before Mesßrs. WA Moore and F. Wayne, 3*.P ) WedkisdAt Junk 25. tOLICB V, LAWRENCE DOOLEY. The information of Constable King set forth that Lawrence Dooley did on May 31 at Springfield,- Milton, unlawfully assist in conducting and was a member in a certain lottery by whioh a horse, the property of one Henry Adams, was sold and disposed of for consideration. The said horse was com* peted or thrown for by dice being oast or thrown, by which the person throwing the highest nnmber would be the winner, contrary to the form of the statute in suoh cases mad* and provided.

The accused pleaded guilty, but said he had nothing to do with getting up the lottery. He thought there was no barm done by allowing it to take piaoe in his house. Constable King Baid tbat he could not prove tbat accused assisted further than by allowing the affair to oome off in his hoase. He had brought the case forward more as a warning than for any other purpoae. Such practices seemed to be common, and he wanted a stop pat to them. He had no desire to press the charge, which was the first of a similar oharaoter which so far as he was aware had been laid in the district. If any case of the Bame nature came forward he would press for an extreme penalty;
