Wednesday. The Justices of the Peace Act Amendment Bill was further considered in Committee. Sir G. Grey's clause for making Justices of the Peace elective was lost by 38 to 18. In Committee on the Counties Bill, an amendment, that an united county may be divided into 13 instead of 9 ridings, was oarried. Thursday. Mr Macandrew brought up the report of the Joint Committee of both Housea on the Jubilee Address to the Queen, which it was decided should be cabled Home to her Majesty. Sir R. Stout introduced the Hospital and Charitable Aid Act 1885 Amendment Bill. The Limitation of Votes Bill was read a third time, and passed. Mr Seddon withdrew his motion with reference to Breach of Privilege. Mr Steward moved the second reading of the Licensing Committees Election Bill, which was lost by 39 to 25. The Land Act Amendment Bill (Mr Pyke) was thrown out on the motion for the second reading. The Factories Bill (Mr Bradshaw) was committed, as was the tSmall Birds Nuisance Act Amendment Bill. In Committee on the Factories Bill, a new clause, providing for sitting accommodation for saleswomen, was carried. The Small Birds Nuisance Bill was passed through Committee without amendment, Friday. Mr Vincent Pyke asked whether the Government will favourably entertain an offer to construct the remaining portion of the Otago Central railway from Taieri Like to Lake Hawea by a company, on term 3 similar to those proposed to be conceded to the East and West Coast Railway Company. Sir R. Stout said he could not give a favourable answer to the request. The system of giving land grants to those companies could not be continued. The Municipal Corporations Bill was reported, read a third time, and passed. The House went into Committee on the Parcels Post Bill, which was reported without amendment, read a third time, and passed. Sir J. Yogel moved the second reading of the East and West Coast and Nelson Railway and Railway Construction Amendment Bill. The debate was interrupted by the 5.30 adjournment. On the House resuming at 7.30 the Premier made his Education Statement, after which the Pacific Islands resolutions were considered and the debate adjourned.
