TOKOMAIRIRO ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Tokomairiro Road Board wss held on Friday evening. Present — Messrs R. Murray (Chairman), Watt, Patterson, Tvveedie, Allison, Drinnan, Murray, Lindsay and Farquharson. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. A communication was received from the Land Board stating that £2 10a 61 was due for deferred-payment thirds, and asking for plans of roads on whici it was proposed to expend the same. The following accounts were passed for payment : —

Ferguson and Mills account for £4, for a culvert was passed subject to Inspector's approval of work. Messrs Lindsay and Farquharson reported that they had visited Burk's with reference to a fencing dispute, and advised that the Board could do nothing in the matter. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Murray, seconded, by Mr Tweed ie, " That a 6 inch pipe be laid in street at Fairfax. 17 Mr Drinnan was authorised to have culvert near Leslie's repaired. It W3s resolved, on the motion of Mr Allison, seconded by Mr Drinnan, " That Mr Wyber be asked to clean creeks to let water off his land." Mr Murray said he supposed they all knew the County Council had received a petition for merging the Board. Though he did all he could to oppose it he could get nobody to support him. Even the heading of the petition was wrong. It was a lie on the face of it. Yet the County Council received it. Many signed the petition on a wroDg basis, thinking that its contents were true. They now wished they had not signed. Nobody had taken steps to get up a counter petition, and probably in that time two months the Board would be merged In the County. It was resolved that the Clerk lay on the

table at next meeting a statement of arrears of rates. The Board adjourned.
