ANOTHER OPINION.
Off toKimberley! Hurrah! Hurrah! 500oz. in a patch ! And all to one man's cheek. Just reminds one of the old Victorian racket, when everybody hooked it to the " diggins," only the conditions ain't quite exactly the same. Victoria was all park lands in those days, and was justly named Australia Felix Ah, me ; those jolly days, on grassy glades, 'neath towering trees, with lots of fleas ; with shicers rank, and duffers crank, and gold galore, in ample store, and all the rest of fuss and trouble, that made Australia seeth and bubble. But the N.W. territory is quite another affair, that the people will find out to their cost who go there. Alligators as long as gum trees ; flying ants as big as crayfish ; and rats having tails two feet long, and with tufts at the end of them as big as birch brooms. 'Skeeters as big as sparrows, and sandflies like cockroaches. Snakes ! my, snakes ! everywhere ; and water, not much anywhere. Pienty of sunshine ! rather! afew! Fires aren't much in request in that part of the world. It is positively on record that a poor tired devil of a digger sat down on a rock one day and, well, — ahem — when he rose agaiu, he was cooked ; had to run for his life from a pack of dingoes attracted bj the scent of roasted meat. Go, certainly ; go, dear boys, to this land of promise, where quinine is a common article of diet, and nary grog ! The man who drinks alcohol dies ! Go my sons ! And those who are unlucky will be ready to come back to New Zealand, and work for anything in the shape of wages ; whilst those who may happen to be lucky, will just pack up their '• swag " of the metal iv one of friend Evans' handsome and commodious gold belts, and will make the straighfcest of bee-lines for the clear Colony this side the middle ground. Ah, me ! Ah, me ! Won't they hurry, and safe at home once more, catch 'em roaming again in a land of snakes, scorpions, alligators, and fever and aueg. Some, however, will stay behind for all time. — " Asrnodeus" in ' N. Z. Mail.' Some gentlemen in Melbourne have decided to form a land company to speculate in the Kimberley district. The proposed capital is £100,000.
