PERSECUTED BOROUGH COUNCILLORS

{To the Editor) Sir, - It was really too bad of ex-councillor H. Wiiite to spoil the little game of the informer. What a haul he could have made by having those parties up af Cer he had gained the case a^aiust Mr D. lieid. But it would not have suited the penny-a-liner to tiave published Air White's letter— hence his lame excuse. Be that however as it may, the ratepayers have to thank Mr White for letting them kuow that there are others who can vote money to themselves, and that the persecuted councillor is not alone, though he may have to pay the piper. — I am, &c, Ratepayer. p.S, — I wonder if any information would have been laid had the contract gone the other way. CATTLE ON PUBLIC ROADS. {To the Eaitoi^. Sir,— l see by the reports which have appeared in your paper, and also by the advertising column, that the Bruce County Council are determined to keep all cattle and sheep off the public roads. It would be satisfactory to know that some of the Councillors commenced to sweep before their own doors first. Last week one of them fouud some sheep in his paddock, wbich belonged to a neighbour of his ; but instead of sending word to the party to come aud take them away, the Councillor alluded to turned taem into the public road. On another occasion he put some sheep belongiug to Mr Boyd, on to another man's land. If a County Councillor acts thus, what are the public to do ?— I am, kc, Bucouc.
