London, December Ist. Wool is firm. Consols, S2|- to 92§. Copper is firm, and tallow easier. The wool sales commenced on the 23rd November, and close on the 7th December. The number of bales catalogued to date was 38, G00. The attendance of buyers was large, and the competition very brisk at the commencement. The September prices were fully sustained. Clothing scoured, from Sydney, Melbourne, or New Zealand, brought Id to iUd in advance. The next sales commence on the Bth February. The mirket is healthy and active, and -encouraging to buyers.

The Cotton market is quiet.

The Alexandrine arrived from Auckland with 120 bales' of fiax. Since the 18th November the market has been very firm. 1500 bales have been offered at auction and all s;iM, showing an advance of o'/s per ton for the month Considerable business has been d'flie in flax for America at L 27 to L3O a ton second-hand parcels. There is a great demand foi low scrts at L2O to L 23, but is very scarce.

The market for Kauri gum remains quiet-. 3000 cases were offered at auction and a portion sold at 10s to 12s for dressed, and for bright, and well scraped 35s 6d to 50s were

The shipments of tallow from Australia for the month are short. The market has hardened for Y.C. Australian mutton, L 47 to L4S ; beef, L 45 t<) L4(5.
