ENGAGEMENT AT WAREA.
On. Sunday ,morning last, Colonel Colville, with about 80' men, formed an ambuscade on. this side of Warea, with the intention of surprising! the rebel natives, who hove lately been harrassing our people in that direction., la. order to lure the Maoris into open ground, Colonel Colville senc forward ■Captain- .Mace and a small party of mounted men. Tlie ruse succeeded, and Colonel Colville and his men had the opportunity of pouring- in a withering fire. '
The enemy numbered, about 50 1 their loss is not known. The casualties on our side are — Sergeant Clifford, killed j Col. Colville, with- g-unshot wound in the thigh, with bone fracture; Serg-eant Dyer, and Private Pratt,, severely wounded. The gallant Colunel is> we are happy in beingable to state, progressing* favorably.— ' Taranaki News/
