Mr G. J. Jenkins read a paper on Papua at the Colonial Institute, saying that thefe were indications tJiat Papua would early become one of Britain's valuable assets, and would assist in relieving tlio Empire from dependence 011 foreign supplies. Mr J. H. B. Murray, Administrator of Papua, who presided, said the Papuan Government recognises its duty was to preserve the natives from the fatal effects' of contact with European civilisation, and the only way to do that was to encourage their industry.
