ITEMS OF INTEREST.

As most people, when they wish to go a long journey, make straight for the express train, so do most people, when out for good business, make straight for the D.C.A., Ltd. Do you ? You owe it to yourself. You owe it to your pocket. The hardware department is the very place just now. Call or write about Preserving Pans, Jars, and everything necessary to make good work of the home fruit preserving.* Lodge Rawhitr meets on Thursday, 27th inst. "Do you play tennis?" is the question asked by the well-known athletic* outfitters of Napier and Palmerston North—Messrs J. It. Ross and Co.— in their advertisement in this issue, and considering the number of clubs this firm has supplied during the season it is unnecessary to state that the question is a pertinent one. Tennis is a game which brings out the fullest development, both • mentally „ and physically, but unless one has the "proper racquet much, harm may be caused, hence the many and varied ideas which are daily brought out for the perfect enjoyment of the game. The latest is the "Lockwedge" racquet, in which the middle piece is spliced into the ash, thus preventing any breaking away at the shoulders and does not need any binding such as vellum or gut. Further, the racquet is bevelled to fit the ball, thus giving a much larger surface* play. A word to the wise is sufficient*. Keen tennis players will do well to get into touch with these racquets as they are certain to be the standard racquet in the future. A meeting of all interested in the formation of a quoits club will be held at Mr Baddeley's hotel to-mor-row evening, at 8 o'clock. A full attendance is requested. Scrimgeour. of Tipapakuku, announces that he is still prepared to undertake painting and paperhanging, and can guarantee the- best of workmanship. His address is Tipapakuku.
