SOCIAL EVENING AT AKITIO.

» The employees of P. Armstrong, Esq., met on Saturday evening to say farewell to Mr Phillips, who is leaving Akitio. The woolshed was tastefully decorated for the occasion. The music was supplied by Messrs Stain-ton and MacLaren, and MiHarris performed the duties of M.C. During the evening songs were sung | by Messrs Phillips an M. Sheehan, j and Mr S. Grant's step-dancing added much to the pleasure of the evening. Before adjourning for supper, Mr J. Grant, chairman, called upon Mr C. McHay to make a presentation to Mr Phillips on behalf of the employees. Mr. Phillips was the recipient of a gold albert and pendant. In making the presentation Mr McKay made reference to the high esteem in which Mr Phillips was held by all those who knew him. Mr Arthur Harrison provided supper, and it was ; done full justice to. The singing of <: Auld Lang Syne" at 12 o'clock brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. j.
