(per press association. ) Wellington, This day. The following cable has been received from the Agent-General, under date Loudon, April. 26th:— "the mutton market is firm, but trade is slow. Tbe average price to-day foi Canterbury : Sjd; Dunetlin, Southland, and W.ME Co., mutton 3jd; other North Island mutton, 3|d. The lamb market is weak and shipments now arriving are very heavy. Ther« has been no alteration in lamb or beef since last week. Buyers of butter are holding back, expectiug prices to go lower. The price to-day is 10os. Cheese is very firm at 565. Hemp is depressed at £36 nominally. MayJuly shipments are at £33. There is a better demand for cocksfoot seed. New Zealand 171 b standard 475."
