HIGH A.C.A. SCORING
PEARSON, W. SNEDDEN, MEULI
Tlnee centuries were scored on Saturday in senior A.C.A. cricket during an afternoon in which three of the four teams batting first compiled over 300 runs. The centuries went to H. T. Pearson (154), W. N. Sneddon (148) and E. Meuli (123 not out), the latter greatly enhancing his claims for selection as Pearson's partner to open Auckland s innings in Plunket Shield games. Meuli has now scored 2G7 runs in four innings, twice not out. Scoring was- low only in the North-Shnre-Ponsonby match at De vonport, in wi 'fh the home batsmen fared badly and th_- visitors no better. Scores were:— . Middlemore 339 for nine wickets, v. Grafton. Eden 312 for nine wickets, v. Parnell. University 332 for six wickets, v. Y.M.C.A. North. ShoE.e -165, v. Ponsonby-Balmoral S2 for two wickets. Several Batsmen l)o Well. —Eden batted throughout the afternoon against and in making 312 runs " nine wickets received good suppoit fiom a number of batsmen. Play ceitain stages was particularly weai s°me (though the batsmen's tactics had the effect of wearing the bowlers out), b some fireworks were provided by K. -HJohns, whose enterprising 1 "?. S. realised 63 runs, the His fourth wicket partnership with S. Halloay, whose scoring was particularly slow, put on 85 for the fourth wicket. D. Ellis, ex Christ's College player, gave a go °nV?"s formance to score 08, and G. C. Burgess (40) and H. J. Harrison (o3) were also nmonc the runs. Parnell s left na bowler, F.. Hemmingson, captured three wickets for 93 runs. He bowled 30 o\eis, live of which were maidens. Middlemore's Solid Score. —A partnership by the opening batsmen, J. A. Jtt. Blandford and H. T. Person which realised 130 runs, gave Middlemen e a srood start against Grafton on the 0 * wicket at Eden Park. Blandford in making 83, his best score so far this season, played attractive cricket. His 23 overs included four maidens. Grafton, the in the competition, will have the oowling of D. C. Cleverley to contend with next Saturday, and Middlemore s 339 may prove a stiff hurdle. Two 'Varsity Centuries. — University had the experience of watching- one of their first men in, who ( w ,?s a cenU maker in the previous match, Arthur Ben, dismissed for 17, while his successoi ; and opening partner, W. N. Snedden aml E. Meuli, both went on to pass the 100 mark. Snedden, though he went in 27 minutes after Meuli, soon overtook the lattei■ s score and after a slow start seoredfree After hitting 15 fours and a six, Snedden fell a victim at 148 to the wicketkeepe , Tucker, who held a catch off Scc>tt s t>°wling. Meuli was more conservative in his batting and had scored! 123! not out at stamps. Harrison bore the brunt of t Y.M.C A. attack, bowling 51 overs forone wicket, but Scott had the best figures with three for 66 In 22 overs. Brabin Cup Trial.—Auckland's JUHWf representatives and secondary s. , from whom will be chosen the B p , Cup team to play Wellington, commenced a two-day match on Eden Park on Sa day. Batting first. Opening Stand of S:i.—North Shores opening stand against Ponsonby lealis 83 before the seventh bowler tried, R. Sorenson, had D. B. Edmonds we'.l caught by F. Clark. Edmonds had scored 40, while his partner, G. A. Richards, y 1 on to 09, but after Richards dismissal there was a batting slump, Shore being out for IGS at 5.15 p.m. Ponsonby s fielding was good, while Sorenson, four f 38 in 19 overs, and A. V. W J L es : fom I*>r 44 in 23.3 overs, bowled with judgment.
