NATIONAL PARTY V. LABOUR
The differences between the parties are not merely ideological. The National, party is chiefly controlled by professional business men, who are part-time politicians. The Labour party is controlled by professional politicians, who are wholetime politicians, "vote-catching experts." Time and again the Labour party springs new stunts on New Zealand and leaves the Opposition standing flat-footed. The National partv once had an infusion ot Liberals, but to-day seems to nave reverted to the old masterly inactivity of the Reform days, with "Private, keep out," on its party doors. Of course, the Labour-party may succeed yet in putting the National party in power, despite tne National party, but to the average New Zealander, fed-up with Government extravagance, crippling, taxation, shortages everywhere, and bureaucratic control of everything the present prospects of relief appear pretty grim. If the National party want to break the spellof futility they suffer from, why not decide on a mass resignation of the party now and refight their seats on the latest challenge to the constitution, the abolition of the Country Quota? ;
