DUTCH RESISTANCE

CONSUL DENIES ALLEGATION P.A. WELLINGTON, this day. Commenting on the report of a Press interview given by Mr. Hatta, Vice-President of the Indonesian National Government, in which Mr. Hatta said the Dutch Army of 100,000 men "chucked up the sponge" without giving fight, the Consul for the Netherlands, Mr. M. P. Vigeveno, said it was amazing that slanderous statements about the fight put up by the Dutch and Indonesian forces against Japan could be made in a country under Allied military control and receive world-wide publicity. He felt sure that readers in New Zealand, who were well aware of the heroic sacrifices made by the Dutch and Indonesian forces in the early days of the struggle with Japan, would see through Mr. Hatta's attempt to sow distrust among the Allies.
