LAND SALE REFUSED
"UNDUE AGGREGATION"
AREA FOB TROTTERS SOUGHT
HAMILTON, this day.
On the ground of aggregation, the Hamilton Land Sales Committee to-day declined an application for the sale of a property of 3i acres which James Clelafid, of Hamilton, desired for the purpose of grazing trotting horses.
When the committee raised , the question of undue aggregation, Mr. P. G. Harkness said that Cleland was the owner of various properties when the Act came into operation and most of them had now been sold. He was applying to purchase a property fairly handy to the Claudelands trotting track. "The chairman, Mr. S. Lewis, said the-eommittee was justified in holding that Cleland was a very great dealer in land and property. The area was. suitable for sub-division into 13 quarter-acre sections. The purpose ■ stated would appear uneconomic and contrary to the provisions of the Act. He did not think any evidence that Cleland could give would justify the committee in passing the sale. It would look to be a flagrant violation of the Act.
After Cleland had given evidence, Mr. Lewis announced that the application would be refused.
