VICTORY REJOICING SUPPLEMENTARY TRANSPORT P.A. CMRISTCHURCH, this day. Where necessary, special petrol licenses will be made available to those desiring to attend victory celebrations where no suitable public transport services are available, the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr. Sullivan, announced to-day. While it was felt that the coupon allowance should meet the requirements of the majority, there might be cases, said Mr. Sullivan, where extra petrol was required, and district controllers had been instructed to give sympathetic consideration to applications, if no alternative transport was available. Transport Licensing Authorities had also been directed to consider sympathetically applications for temporary licenses from passenger service operators for special trips to carry the public to the celebrations.
The Government was specially anxious, said Mr. Sullivan, that all school children should be given an opportunity of taking part in the celebrations.
